What Are Tooth Extractions?
At Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics, we prioritize saving your natural teeth whenever possible, but there are instances where the best way to preserve your smile is by removing a troublesome tooth. A simple extraction involves removing a tooth that is visible above the gumline, often due to severe damage or decay. A surgical extraction, on the other hand, is needed for teeth that haven't emerged, such as impacted wisdom teeth. Whichever approach is needed, our goal is to keep you comfortable and manage pain effectively throughout the process, both during and after your extraction. If you're facing tooth issues, contact our team of dentists in Benbrook, TX to learn more about how tooth extractions can restore your oral health.
How Are Tooth Extractions Performed?
Tooth extractions are done using local anesthesia to numb the affected area, ensuring a more comfortable patient experience. For a simple extraction, the tooth is carefully loosened and removed. A surgical extraction involves making a small incision in the gum to access the tooth, and if needed, the tooth may be broken into smaller sections for easier removal. After the tooth is removed, any incisions are closed, and antibiotics may be prescribed to support healing if necessary. Recovery after tooth extraction typically involves mild discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and a soft diet for a few days.
Before you leave our office, we'll talk about what you can do at home to ensure a smoother recovery, as well as which foods are safe to eat after a tooth extraction. Generally, we recommend sticking to soft foods, like yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies, to avoid irritating the extraction site. It's best to avoid hot, crunchy, or spicy foods until healing is well underway.
What Are Some of the Benefits of Tooth Extractions?
A tooth extraction is an important and sometimes necessary procedure that can provide a number of benefits for your dental health, including:
- Preventing the spread of infection to healthy teeth
- Protecting the surrounding teeth and gums
- Preparing the mouth for future restorations (like dental implants)
- Avoiding overcrowding issues, particularly with impacted teeth
- A quick, in-office procedure performed with local anesthesia to ensure comfort
The exact cost of a tooth extraction will depend on which approach is needed and how many teeth need to be removed. Tooth extraction is usually covered by insurance. During your consultation at Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics, we'll discuss what you can expect in terms of out-of-pocket costs.
Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics Reviews
I have been going to this office for over a year. The new staff Dr.El, Synthia & Edgar are a breath of fresh air. Synthia is bright, welcoming and friendly! She is efficient and responds to questions quickly. Making appointments with her is a breeze. She also assisted me with finding a more affordable appointment for my oral surgery. Dr. El is super knowledgeable, friendly and encourages the best oral health for her patients. I recently had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out and although she did not do the procedure she gave me ease of mind with post and pre op instructions. Edgar is friendly and makes X-rays and set up for cleanings go smoothly! I will continue going here and wish the best success for the team and future patients.
My wife and I have looked everywhere in the area for a good dentist to help with our situation, we called and spoke with Hollywood and they were super helpful and got us in quickly! Synthia helped in every way possible and is very nice and professional. This is our new dentist for good!! Thank you Dr. El and staff !! :)
The staff and Dr. EL are very courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, informative and you can tell they really care about YOUR needs! I'm a paraplegic and they catered to my needs way beyond any of my expectations 💯. I highly recommend 👌 checking them out!
Such an awesome experience with Dr. Elrabaa. She took the time, counseled me, went over a Dental treatment plan for me. I hadn't been to the dentist in a while, so my first trip back was amazing. I almost skipped my appointment because of work, but because I hadn't been in so long, I kept my appointment. I am so glad I did. It felt like I was at a tooth spa, literally. She treated my teeth, with such care. The way she handled my 32 teeth, felt really good. Again, Dr.Elra was phenomenal, at taking care of my teeth. Call Synthia E. now, to set up an appointment, I know you'll enjoy.
The office staff Synthia is really amazing and patient. The dentist is also patient and understanding. Wouldn’t recommend anyone else
