Periodontal Treatment in Benbrook, TX

Periodontal disease (or gum disease) is a condition that affects countless patients. This chronic dental condition is caused by a buildup of harmful bacteria around the gumline, which can lead to infection and bone loss. The first stage of gum disease is gingivitis, which is followed by periodontitis and then advanced periodontitis if it's not treated. As the condition gets worse, you may start to notice symptoms, like inflamed or red gums, bleeding while brushing or flossing your teeth, or chronically bad breath (halitosis), all of which may be a sign of infection. Our team at Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics performs a variety of advanced techniques to manage periodontal disease and preserve your smile. If you have experienced any symptoms of gum disease or have been diagnosed with this condition in the past, contact our dental office in Benbrook, TX to receive the personalized care you need.

Gum disease can worsen without proper treatment, which is why it's important to schedule regular dental visits to monitor the health of your teeth and gums. We diagnose periodontal disease at Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics using a specialized tool that measures the pockets between your gums and teeth. Large gaps often need extra attention, as this is where plaque and tartar can accumulate. We may also perform x-rays and check your gums for inflammation or other signs of infection.

Treatments for periodontal disease include scaling and root planing, as well as antibiotics for more advanced cases. In the most severe cases of gum disease, we might recommend surgery to deep-clean the gums and rebuild lost jawbone.

Gum treatment at Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics offers a range of benefits that can significantly improve your dental health and overall wellness. Some of the key advantages of periodontal treatment at our Benbrook, TX office include:

I'll start by saying, it's been 25 years of me absolutely not going to the dentist unless I had to. My first visit here was for a root canal, Cynthia and Dr El were both so phenomenal I scheduled my next appointment the same day. I usually have to be sedated for my dental treatments but the time and patience they showed me is unparalleled in any other dentist I've ever been to personally or heard about from family & friends. I just had my follow up today after my root canal and it was the same glorious treatment I had previously, Dr El has the biggest heart of any Dr I've ever met with. The time she takes to help explain, to teach, to comfort - completely unseen nowadays. In just two visits she's taught me how to easily floss, what to look for and during each procedure she tells me what to expect during and after. It's a level of comfort I've never had and I look forward to coming back to see her and getting more taken care of, I cannot say enough about how calming and (dare I say Dr El can be really funny) hilarious it is to have an appointment here. I laugh during my appointment which has never happened before, I even almost fell asleep during my root canal! I'm just thrilled and incredibly thankful and lucky to have found her and her amazing staff. Thank you!!

How do I know if I need periodontal treatment?

If you're noticing symptoms like bleeding when you brush, persistent bad breath, gum recession, or even teeth feeling a bit loose, it's time to see a specialist. These are signs your gums aren't as healthy as they should be. You might not even realize how far things have progressed without an exam, because gum disease often sneaks up quietly. It's always better to be proactive than to wait until the damage becomes harder (and more expensive) to fix.

Are periodontal treatments painful?

Honestly, many people are surprised at how comfortable modern periodontal treatments can be. With advanced tools and techniques, dentists today are very good at minimizing discomfort. You might feel a little pressure or vibration during deep cleanings, but pain is usually not part of the experience. Plus, if you're nervous, there are often sedation options to help you relax even more.

What happens if I ignore periodontal problems?

Honestly, it's not something you want to gamble with. Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause serious gum damage, bone loss around your teeth, and eventually even tooth loss. Plus, research shows a strong connection between gum disease and overall health problems like heart disease and diabetes. Taking care of your gums isn't just about your smile — it's really about protecting your whole body's health.

Take control of your gum health today by scheduling an appointment at Hollywood Dental and Orthodontics.
